HOW TO CARE FOR & WASH YOUR SWIMWEAR

Want to splash around in your favourite one-piece for years to come? Here's how to make your swimming costumes, bikinis and briefs last longer

Give it a rinse

Let’s face it, swimwear has it tough. Regular run ins with its biggest adversaries – pool chemicals, salt water, sand, heat and sunscreen lotions – don't do it any favours. Rinse immediately after use and make sure the water’s cold (as warm water can fade colours).

Wash by hand

As tempting as it may be to throw them in the wash, you’ll get a lot more life from your swimsuits, bikinis and swim shorts by handwashing in a basin of cold water with gentle detergent, then rinsing thoroughly. Avoid anything with harsh chemicals, such as fabric softener, as this could damage the fabric.

Leave to air dry

Leave the tumble dryer well alone. The best way to dry swimwear is to lay out a clean, dry towel. Roll the towel up tightly (without wringing) to remove moisture, then leave to air dry in a dry spot but keep it out of direct sunlight.

Avoid rough surfaces

Planning to perch yourself on a rock to dip your toes in the deep blue sea? Watch out. Rocks and concrete pool sides are major offenders when it comes to snagging fabric. A beach towel to sit on or a beach cover-up are your friends here.
