Aliwen Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage: 2011
Gentle, well-rounded wine with vibrant aromas of red fruit and complex notes of blackcurrant, vanilla, chocolate and tobacco on the palate. Fabulously smooth, and rich with warm hazelnut tones on the finish, this is a multi-layered treasure of a wine: robust, but utterly mouthwatering.
About this bottle: A blend of Cabernet grapes from two regions: Maipo and Colchagua. The Maipo fruit comes from old vines – up to 20 years in age – grown on soils that are deep and stony and where warm summers are tempered by foggy mornings and cold evening breezes. Colchagua has constant sunshine but poorer, river bank soils. The resulting blend of fruit (70% Maipo to 30% Colchagua) has just the right balance of warm, ripeness and crisp acidity to keep the wine fresh.

Domaine Mirabau ‘Les Domaines Auriol’
Vintage: 2013
A bright and autumnal southern French red bursting with bramble fruit and smokey spice aromas over an elegant palate of raspberry and cassis flavours with lively acidity.
About this bottle: This modern Roussillon red comes from southwest of Perpignan in the fertile hills between the Canigau mountains and the Mediterranean sea. Here, vines have thrived for centuries and grapes easily ripen, giving the local winemakers considerable options. To give this wine its balance, the winemakers vinified the grapes in two ways, using Beaujolais-style carbonic maceration to draw as much fruity exuberance as possible from the Syrah, while vinifying the Grenache traditionally to give the wine its depth and structure.

Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba DOCG
Vintage: 2012
This lively red shows aromas of red berries and cherries over hints of sun-baked earth, with cherry and bitter almonds flavours followed by a bright and tangy finish.
About this bottle: While it’s often overshadowed by Piedmont’s more famous grapes Nebbiolo and Barbera, Dolcetto offers the canny wine drinker bags of tangy Italian fruit character. Produced in the tiny Diano d’Alba village, nestled between the heavyweight Barolo and Barbaresco areas, this generous red was crafted by winemaker Daniele Ponzo. Sourcing grapes from mature vineyards in the Langhe hills, Daniele carefully vinified the wine at low temperatures to extract all the grapes’ character, leaving it unoaked to enhance the freshness.

Terre di Giumara Grillo
Vintage: 2013
This gorgeous golden Sicilian white offers intriguing notes of lime, ripe pear and ground almond over a tingling fresh backbone of green apple and tropical fruit flavours.
About this bottle: Grillo is an historic Italian grape variety that thrives along Sicily’s south-western coast near Marsala where it is an important component of the area’s famous sweet wine. But Grillo also makes excellent dry whites when the grapes are carefully grown and vinified, such as this example from Terre di Giumara. Winemaker Giuseppe Clementi is an expert in bringing the best out of this and the island’s other indigenous grapes, creating a wine with a wonderful balance of freshness and complexity.
