step 1
Season the beef mince (500 g) with salt, pepper, half the crushed garlic (4 cloves) and the oregano (2 tbsp) in a bowl. Roll into balls.

Heat 2 tsp olive oil in a frying pan over a medium heat and fry the rest of the garlic, the onion (1), the celery (2 stalks) and the carrot (1) until softened. Add to the slow cooker.

Brown the meatballs in the pan, then add to the slow cooker along with the chopped tomatoes (1 tin), 400ml water and some salt and pepper. Cook on low for 5 hours.

Serve the meatballs topped with cheddar (to taste) and basil (to taste), along with your choice of pasta, pitta bread (to taste) or jacket potato and salad (to taste).
