Our Plan A stories
Discover stories about your favourite products and the people who make them, as part of our ongoing effort to help us reach our goal to become net zero by 2040
Making a good move
Recycled polyester? It’s a priority. 70% of the polyester used in our products* is recycled, and we’ve pledged to make it 100% by the end of 2025.
*Excluding filling, trims and components.
We're making denim differently
We’ve been partners with Better Cotton for more than a decade and, since 2019, 100% of the cotton used in our clothing has been sourced through Better Cotton or with organic and recycled certifications. We continue to maintain this position by working closely with our supplier partners and through industry collaborations.
A story about true support
The Marks & Start programme has supported people like Sandamali for 20 years. Our employability scheme helps people who are at a disadvantage to succeed in their communities – through skills development training, economic empowerment and a clear, accessible route into work.
The beauty of recycling
In 2023 we launched a beauty takeback scheme in association with HANDLE. In the first nine months, we diverted 1.6 tonnes of beauty packaging from landfill. And now we’re able to create new products from it, including hair combs, which will be available to buy soon.
A story about durability
M&S school uniform is responsible, durable and hand-me-downable. Because we know that if our uniform is longer lasting, they’ll get more wear out of them, and we’ll be closer to our net-zero goals. Go behind the scenes of our back-to-school advert to discover the steps we’re taking.
The repair revolution
In the UK, 300,000 tonnes of clothing are thrown away each year. Much of that could be repaired and reused. Join M&S Ambassador Vick Hope as she discovers our new repair service in partnership with SOJO and learn how you can give your clothes Another life.
Care and connection
Sourcing and making products with care is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we use only the highest quality fibres to make our cashmere, and 100% of our pure cashmere products are certified by the Sustainable Fibre Alliance.
Another life.
We’ve made reducing plastic a top priority: by reducing it in products and packaging, making it easier to recycle and giving it new life in take-back initiatives
