Awful
No, I don't recommend this
This gluten free lemon drizzle cake is possibly the worst cake I have ever tried. Gluten free sponge cakes are much better than they used to be and many cafes sell incredibly good sponge cakes which are now hard to differentiate from the normal wheat flour sponge cake. This cake was far too dense and wet and far too sweet for me and as for the price!!! Never again. M&S and their products now lag behind many other outlets and are no longer premium. Shame.

Disappointing

This cake is so far the only thing from the without wheat range that I have ever really disliked. It appeared on the shelves of most of my local stores a while back, replacing the Chocolate and Cherry cake (which was by far the best gluten free cake I have ever purchased from a supermarket). I found this to be a step back from what I expect of the without wheat range, more like a lot of the gluten free cakes that you used to get in supermarkets 5 or so years ago. The flavour is fairly pleasant (maybe slightly to tart for me) but the cake is incredibly dry and crumbly (we could barely cut the thing into slices as it just broke apart into crumbs). Thinking we may have gotten a bad cake, we returned it to the store in exchange for a new one, this was no better. I defiantly wont be buying this product again and would not suggest you do either, I would however try the rest of the range, which in general is a standard way above what is offered by other supermarkets.

Nice but is it worth it?
Yes, I recommend this
I like this cake but I think charging £6 (ok, 2p less than £6) is somewhat over the top for a small cake.

nice flavour and value, a bit dry, but good with some cream as a desert rather than a cake for afternoon tea

Great lemony taste
Yes, I recommend this
As previous reviewers stated this cake is great tasting for a gluten free cake, but it is small. I would not say it had "lashings" of buttercream, but it is certainly tangy and lemony.

minus the gluten - tasty

Excellent cake - fantastic taste and texture. Used instead to give instead of Wedding cake at our reception.

Best Ever Cake
Yes, I recommend this
This cake is as delicious as it looks and tastes no different to other cakes with gluten. Infact I'd go as far to say it is even better than most. I also like the chocolate version just as much. Both cakes are moist and keep well, although in our house they do not last very long as the whole family enjoy them.

Enjoyed both by coeliacs and others
Yes, I recommend this
Coeliac relatives were impressed by this cake and were keen to buy it for themselves - much better than glutne free cakes they had had before.

Two tiny cakes
No, I don't recommend this
I was disappointed when I arrived at store to collect this order. I did not want two tiny cakes - just one large cake for a Birthday. Such a shame, they looked lovely.

Fantastic
Yes, I recommend this
This cake is absolutely delicious - only problem is that not enough stores stock it. Best Gluten-Free Cake I've ever had - if you could keep this cake and bring back the chocolate one too I'd be in heaven!! Please don't ever stop stocking this!

Fantastic Cake
Yes, I recommend this
This is by far and away the best shop-bought Gluten Free cake I have tasted. I think it beats all the other 'Free From' brands hands down for taste, and particularly texture. Until now, the GF cakes I have tried were overly sweet, heavy and dry in texture and generally so disappointing. This one is tangy, moist and delicious, just like the ones I remember pre-Coeliac. Love it. Thank you M&S!!

just like mother used to make

I love this cake, i thought the chocolate cake was best till i tasted this one, its brilliant, the taste is devine, please dont ever change the formula or stop making it, please, this is the nearest thing to what i remember cake tasting like in over 20 years, i have tried lots of cakes even ones made by professionals and this one is the best, if you dont believe me you've got to try it, and if you buying it for a loved one with coeliac disease they will truly love you for it. The texture is light, the topping is just so yummy and when i get hold of one, nobody else gets a look in. xx
