Good amount of material in leg / thigh area so not tight / can sit down in comfortably. Would say there is not much spare cord if you are at the top of medium size and need to let out, but the waist is elasticated. Did order large in error and whilst they obviously provide more cord / elastic if on top end if medium, also much more material in leg / thigh area (my wife said looked like clown pants)
