Insects over floor from tree

Please be aware that any issues with plant needs to be reported within 5 days. I did not call straight away when I found little insects all over my living room floor after lifting it out of the bag and watering it. When I lifted it up again there was a collection of insect underneath. It was a gift from a friend for getting a new job and either I will have to buy a new one or tell her what happened. I just put it on balcony until I got a chance to call.

The tree was dead with leaves filling the box after falling off. Plant was very dry To be fair marks and Spencer’s gave full refund but it’s not nice when it was a gift for someone.
