2 New additional matching chairs
Yes, I recommend this
Needed extra chairs for a growing family, chairs matched our ‘old ones’ in colour and build, were very well packed and were delivered in great condition on time as pre arranged.

Elegant chairs
Yes, I recommend this
Loved the chairs in the store and they look even better round our table replacing our battered chairs. The leather is lovely and soft and extremely comfortable to sit on .Im hoping any food spillages will wipe straight off.

Do not buy

Leather shabby and peeling. We are a retired couple and the chairs have had minimal use. Poor and substandard quality and therefore overpriced.

Poor quality
No, I don't recommend this
I have to agree with the other reviewers. I was really pleased with these chairs at first as they looked lovely. Very soon it was apparent that they are poorly made. The bottoms are coming away, the backs have come loose and they are not safe to sit on. We can't afford replacements yet so have to tell people to be careful and don't lean back when they sit at our dinner table.

Disappointed
No, I don't recommend this
Bought eight of these chairs so had enough when family occasionally visited Disappointed that that are not cream but more a yellow colour and after only a year the back has come away from the seat on two of them making it unsafe to sit on Expensive chairs to replace every twelve months !!

Cheaply made; faulty
No, I don't recommend this
I had ordered six of the brown leather Alton chairs. When they arrived two of them had bad faults. Underneath the seat the very thin covering is just stapled on. Two of the chairs were not stapled properly and the material was hanging off. The construction of the chairs is not good. Weak points are where the legs are attached to the chairs. When you look more closely at the way these chairs are made they are of the worst quality. I am surprised that M&S would sell these. The leather is cheap looking - more like plastic. Sadly I had to return all of the chairs for a refund. Not what I would expect of M&S.

Rubbish
No, I don't recommend this
I bought four of these chairs. All of the colour rubbed off the leather chairs on the top corners and now along edge of seats. These are used very little and looked like old chairs. Marks and Spencer’s sent out a couple of their experts who said wear and tear after 11 months. Absolutely rubbish. The cost of these experts would have paid the same as swapping chairs and having happy customers. You expect dining chairs longer than 11 months. We live and learn. I definitely won’t buy any furniture from marks and Spencer’s again.

Look lovely but don't last
No, I don't recommend this
We purchased 10 of these chairs to go with the Sonoma table and sideboard. With our "children" now adults, they have received fairly light use over the past 5 years. Unfortunately in 4 chairs the joints of the back legs have gone. We understood that such items should be fit for purpose - and that should be at least 6 years. Basic problem appears to be the poor design of the joints and lack of stretcher bars. If you want chairs to last go elsewhere!

Worse chairs we have ever bought
No, I don't recommend this
Bought 6 Alton dining chairs for our kitchen. They looked good to begin with but defects soon appeared. Four chairs were exchanged but had similar problems with these. Chairs soon looked very worn and tired. We are a retired couple so daily wear and tear is at a minimum. We do have visits from family and friends but, generally, with six chairs the use is light. Wish we'd never bought them.
