A Guide to Wearing Jeans in Summer

Choose the right material
When choosing jeans to wear in summer, pay close attention to the type of denim they're made from. Look for breathable cotton or cotton-rich fabric and remember you can always check the care label if you’re unsure about the composition.
The weight of the fabric also influences how a garment feels to wear; lightweight denim is more breathable and therefore more comfortable to wear during warmer weather.
You may also prefer to avoid stretch fabrics containing synthetic fibres such as elastane and polyester that can trap the heat. However, you can buy jeans made from semi-synthetic fibres such as lyocell which are designed with breathability in mind.

Choose a looser fit
To keep cooler in warm weather, swap out skinny jeans in favour of looser fits which allow more airflow. Straight leg or boyfriend jeans are a great middle-ground if slim-fit jeans are your usual go-to. Or why not try our viral carrot jeans which have a flattering high waist and tapered, ankle-grazer legs?
Wide leg jeans are another great option for warmer weather, or channel this spring's seventies-inspired renaissance with a pair of flared jeans.
Cropped jeans are ideal for when temperatures spike and pair perfectly with sandals, but on seriously hot days, you can’t beat a pair of denim shorts.

Embrace summer colours
It's common knowledge that lighter-coloured clothing feels more comfortable in hot weather with shades such white, beige, and cream reflecting the sun and keeping you cool.
However, there’s no reason you can’t wear black denim on cooler summer days, especially in the evening. Cropped-length black jeans worn with espadrille-style sandals is the perfect outfit combination for relaxed summer drinks. Or, if the sunshine has you in the mood for a pop of colour, these cropped light pink jeans are perfect for weekend plans.

What to wear with jeans in summer
A white T-shirt
Pair light-coloured jeans with a white T-shirt for the ultimate fresh summer look.
Oversized shirts
Offset the rigidity of the denim with a flowing oversized shirt.
Blouses
For a more feminine aesthetic, channel boho style with tie-front detailing, frills and oversized collars.
Waistcoats
The champion of polished summer dressing is the waistcoat. For ultimate cool, opt for a linen blend like this classic button-through style.
Shoes
With the exception of boots which may cause your feet to overheat, ballet pumps, Mary Janes and sandals should pair seamlessly with your jeans in summer.
